Go see Treinta y Tres, which is a trading post for cattle and rice. Also check out the Agua Salus park in Minas on your way there. Climb to the top of Sierras de las Animas. There’s not much “touristy” to see and do but there are plenty of natural vistas to enjoy driving through the country, especially in the northern parts like Tacuarembo.
What will the weather be like in August? I want to reserve a place to stay in Montevideo the first night we are there and “wing it” from there. Can you recommend a place to stay? We’re not into tourist resorts, etc. and really want to experience the local environment. Me hablo espanol.
